The younger generation is tattooing themselves all up, why is that? Some of the tats are kick ass, but when I was growing up we were discouraged from getting tattoos.

I think alot of them are doing it because they've seen all the atheletes and music stars all inked up and their are following the trend. The majority of young people look up to those in sports and the entertainment industries and try to emulate what behavior they have, what they are wearing and their actions as well.  Monkey see, monkey do.

Like my youngest daughter told me, it is their way of expressing themselves. The only thing I told her it would express is their ignorance. The holes or ink they are putting into their body is permanent and at such a young age by 30-35 most of those tattoos will be so fucked up you will not be able to tell what it was.
I did allow my daughter to get her belly pierced and told her any more alterations to her body will be made after she turns 18. Till then she is under my fucking rules.

It's way more socially exceptable now and the tats don't discourage from getting jobs.

I think this is true to a very large extent. Unfortunately, I also think that a lot of these celebrities, athletes, and musicians are crappy role models for our kids, and our kids are learning the wrong set of values because of it.

I'm not a tattoo fan. Not at all. One or two well done and well placed tats are OK but I don't get why otherwise beautiful young women are rushing out to get these ugly, stark, tattoos done-- and often get far too many of them.
I certainly don't understand the allure of "tramp stamps" and I don't understand why guys get full sleeves done. It just looks tacky IMHO.

I don't mind piercings, but even that when done in overkill, is a turnoff for me,and I don't understand why these kids want to mutilate themselves like that. I've seen young men and women with no fewer than twenty facial piercings: eyebrows, ears, nose, lips, tongue, the nape of the neck....  They look like they've been hit by shrapnel. Most piercings WILL heal over time, some faster than others, and you can choose not to wear jewelry in those piercings. With tattoos, you don't have that choice whether to wear it or not.

I hope my son will never get a tattoo-- I can guarantee you that I won't ever get one-- but once he turns 18 he can do what he wants with his body. I can only hope that I manage to teach him to have respect for himself, for others, and for his God (whatever that may be), and trust him to make good choices for himself.

I love my tat! 15 years I've had her, and still in love with it.  Like everything else, moderation, moderation, but yeah, the free spirit in me, says fuck what the world thinks, if I love it, that's all that matters...it was for me, not for anyone else!

Now as for hubby, he's not a tat fan, but isn't opposed to me getting another....which I have been thinking about alot lately....

Tattoos are like women posing on the internet naked for porn. Some are better than others to look at and both have been critisized by others for lack of self respect.

Difference is, tattoos only last on the body until the maggots eat your flesh....your nude pictures are on the net forever.
